Instrument panel fuse box (fuse holder C)
On a left-hand-drive car the holder is behind the cover in the steering-column area, the one with the AIRBAG label: start at its lower right corner and pull it off. Right-hand-drive cars keep the same holder behind a cover in the glove box.
Plate B8V-0217 lays out fifty-three positions. F1 stands on end at the top left and F2 at the top right, with relays R1 to R3 between them. The large F3 is at the left of the top row F4 to F10 and F11 to F14; F15 to F21 run under F4 to F10 with F22 lying beneath F11 to F14. Then come the large F23, the row F24 to F28, F29 over F30 and the large F31; F32 to F37 with F38 to F42 to their right, F40 set half a fuse lower. The bottom holds the large F43, F44 and F45, F46 to F48, F49 lying flat, the large F50 with F52 on end under it and F51 below, and F53 on the right-hand lobe over relays R5 and R6, with R4 at the very bottom. Every row reads left to right. The European handbook of the launch year shows no unassigned location, so eleven of the numbered sockets are drawn without a rating.

Engine compartment fuse box (fuse holder B)
Left side of the engine compartment, under the cover that carries the plastic fuse clip on its inside; release the cover's catch to lift it away.
Audi's plate B8V-0173 draws the holder with the six bolt-down links across its top edge. Below them F14 and F13 sit at the top left beside relay R4, and the cartridges F2 and F1 at the top right; R3, the cartridge pair F12 and F11, and R5 follow underneath. Three columns then run down the holder and are read top to bottom: F15 to F21 at the left, above relays R1 and R2; F31 to F38 in the middle beside R8, R9 and R10; F3 to F10 at the right. F22 sits over F23 in the bottom left corner, with F24 beside relay R7 and R6 along the bottom. The European handbook that covers the first model year prints ratings but shows no unassigned location, so 14, 21, 33 to 36 and 38 are drawn as numbered sockets without one.
