2004 Nissan Altima L31 Fuse Box Diagram

Look low on the driver's side of the instrument panel for a lift-off cover; behind it is the fuse block, and the cover itself holds the spare fuses. Model year 2004 is where the L31's electrics were re-cut - the underhood module was renumbered and this block changed with it - so a 2004 Altima has to be read from a 2004 table and never from the 2002 or 2003 one.

Two horizontal lines of mini fuses stand upright in the block. The top line is 1 to 7, then a break where the puller clips in, then 8 to 11 and a spare pocket. The bottom line is 12 to 18, then 19 in the break, then 20 to 22 and two spares. On this edition position 17 has been vacated and 21 brought into use for the shift lock control unit, the reverse of what Nissan printed for the first two model years.

The module is bolted to the left-hand inner wing ahead of the battery, and its lid lifts off after a single tab. This is the model year in which Nissan rebuilt it: the 2004 edition of the service manual prints a different fuse map with nineteen positions instead of twenty, so a table copied from a 2002 or 2003 Altima will put the right amperage against the wrong circuit here.

The fuses sit in the middle of the module, between two banks of relays, in two columns of eleven cells. The left column reads 41, 40, 39, 38, 37, 36 downwards, skips a cell, then continues 35, 34, 33, 32. The right column starts one cell lower with 50 and works down to 42, leaving both its top and its bottom cell empty. Low beam is fuse 36 on the right-hand side and 45 on the left - the opposite way round from most published tables.

The link holder is the flat black box sitting over the battery tray, reached without tools once its single clip is pressed; the horn relay is the three-terminal block at its inboard end. The 2004 printing raises the two ABS links from 30 A to 40 A - the only change of rating anywhere in this holder across the generation - so match the letter and not just the colour when you replace one.

Numbered blade positions come in two groups of four: 24, 25, 26 and 27 on the upper line, 28, 29, 30 and 31 on the lower. The lettered links fill the rest of the plate. On the top line f carries 50 A on its own, g and h carry 40 A each on this book, and i is empty; on the bottom line j is empty, k and l carry 40 A and the taller m carries 40 A as well. Fuse 24 still feeds the immobiliser control unit on this model year.
