2002 Nissan Altima L31 Fuse Box Diagram

The fuse block sits at the very bottom of the instrument panel on the driver's side, behind a small trim lid that pulls straight towards you, just above the bonnet release. The 2002 car is the first model year of the L31 generation, assembled at Smyrna from the autumn of 2001, and the only book that maps this block is section PG of Nissan's factory service manual: the owner's handbook shows how to change a fuse and nothing more.

Twenty-two numbered mini blade fuses stand on end in two rows of thirteen column positions. The upper row runs 1 to 7 from the left, skips the notch where the plastic fuse puller is clipped, then picks up at 8 to 11 with a spare pocket beyond. The lower row covers the same seven columns as 12 to 18, puts 19 on its own under the notch, and finishes with 20, 21, 22 and two more spare pockets. Positions 2, 3, 4, 16, 18, 21 and 22 are moulded sockets with nothing behind them on this model year.

Open the bonnet and look at the left-hand side of the engine bay, ahead of the battery and beside the washer bottle: the IPDM E/R - Nissan's intelligent power distribution module, engine room - is the large cream box whose lid unclips upwards. It replaced the separate relay box and fuse block of the earlier L30 Altima and carries its own control circuit, which is why several of its relays cannot be pulled out at all.

The fuse field is a tall pair of columns near the left edge of the module, read with the module upright as the drawing's UP arrow shows. The left column runs 42 at the top down to 32 at the foot; the right column starts alongside it at 51 and counts down to 43, stopping two rows short of the bottom. All twenty positions take low-profile mini blades. The big rectangles to their right are the cooling fan, headlamp, fog lamp and starter relays.

This is the second underhood holder: a shallow black box clipped over the battery tray on the driver's side, with the horn relay at one end and the car's cartridge-type fusible links along the middle. Nissan's owner's handbook does not describe it at all - it appears only in the service manual's power-supply section, as connector E6, with a Front arrow pointing towards the nose of the car.

Blade fuses 24 to 27 sit in a short row across the top and 28 to 31 in a matching row at the bottom right. Between and below them are the lettered fusible links f to m, which Nissan identifies by letter rather than by number, so each is drawn here as a socket with its letter and rating printed underneath. On the 2002 car f is the 50 A supply to the body control module, g and h are 30 A each for the ABS unit, and k, l and m are 40 A for the cooling fans and the ignition switch.
