Junction box behind the glove compartment
The X1's fuse carrier sits behind the glove compartment. Open the glove box, push the damper strut forward out of its lower mount (arrow 1 in BMW's handbook), press the two catches at the sides (arrows 2) and the whole glove box swings down to expose the carrier. BMW clips a plastic fuse puller to the carrier and prints the fuse allocation card for the car on the back of the cover; a model-year 2011 X1 (built between September 2010 and August 2011, before the 2012 facelift and still with the N52 six-cylinder in the xDrive28i) carries the E9x-style card with positions 1-92 that this diagram reproduces.
Reading the card: the three MINI blocks along the top run 1-5 above 6-10, 11-15 above 16-20 and 21-25 above 26-30. The ATO rows underneath are numbered column by column from the bottom up (31 at bottom left, 33 at top left, on to 47-49 in the last column); 43 and 51 have no socket. The lone upright fuse 50 sits at the left edge, the small flat MINI block 52-61 below it climbs in two columns, 62-66 over 67-71 stand in the middle, 72-77 and the three tall window fuses 78-80 line the bottom, and the ATO block 81-86 and the MAXI block 87-92 at the lower right each count upwards, left column first.
