European cars carry two boxes in the engine compartment; this is the main one, on the left beside the battery. Squeeze the two tabs and lift the cover off - the pull-out tool is clipped to its inside. The 2013 pages come from the OM42A21E edition, whose plate D6RV019a numbers thirty-seven positions. The first column runs six blades down to the VLVMATIC, ABS NO.2 and ABS NO.1 cartridges; the second is headed by BBC and ends in the wide GLOW, EPS and ALT links stepping to the bottom; WIPER-S and a five-blade column occupy the middle; RADIO, ECU-B NO.1 and DOME with the two low-beam fuses sit at the right; the three spares stand on end in the pocket at the bottom left.

The second European engine-compartment box sits beside the first under a cover of its own with two tabs, and it holds the heating and cooling circuits. Plate D6RV080 in OM42A21E numbers fourteen positions: a column of six cartridges - PTC HTR NO.1 to NO.3, CDS FAN, RDI FAN and HTR - with tall relays to their left, and a second column headed by the DEF cartridge running down through the small fuses DRL, TOWING-ALT, FOG FR and STV HTR to DEICER, the H-LP CLN cartridge and the hatched squares around it. MIR HTR is the one populated socket in the group of six at the right.

North American RAV4s take one engine-compartment box where European cars have two: the heater and fan cartridges that fill the European type B box are built into this housing. It is on the left of the compartment beside the battery, under the cover with two tabs, and plate D6RV018a in OM42809U numbers forty positions. RADIO, ECU-B NO.1 and DOME head the first column; the second runs from the CDS FAN cartridge down through six more cartridges; the third carries HTR and H-LP-MAIN over the blade run to ALT-S/ICS, with the EPS and ALT links stepping to the bottom left; the spares 38, 39 and 40 stand on end in the corner pocket.

Under the instrument panel on the driver's side. Left-hand-drive cars simply open the lid; right-hand-drive cars take a cover off first and then open it. The carrier is plate D6RV021, shared by both markets and both editions of the car: two rows of sixteen sockets with the fuses standing on end, the first socket of the upper row and the sixth of the lower left unused, which leaves thirty numbered fuses. Two of them are printed with no circuit on North American cars - FOG RR, because there is no rear fog light, and P/SEAT F/R.

Four cartridge fuses on the back of the junction block, behind the instrument panel. Getting to them means removing the panel under the steering column on a left-hand-drive car, or the glove box on a right-hand-drive one. Plate D6RV024 of the 2013 manual arranges them two by two and numbers them across the rows: P/SEAT F/L and P/SEAT F/R above, PBD and P/W MAIN below, every one of them 30 A.
