Left-side fuse block

On the 2011 Mazda 3 the interior fuses live behind a small removable cover at the outboard end of the dash on the left side of the car, reached with the front door open rather than from the footwell. Mazda's own instruction is to look here first: "If the electrical system does not work, first inspect the fuses on the vehicle's left side." The July 2010 handbook, form 8BM5-EA-10F Edition 2, still prints the heading "Fuse block (Passenger's side)" over the plate, a translation left over from the right-hand-drive home-market book where the left side is indeed the passenger's.

Positions 1 to 3 are the three broad cartridge holders in the left column, the only cartridges in the cabin. Everything from 4 to 21 is a small blade fuse in the six-column field beside them, and the count runs vertically: top, middle, bottom, then across to the next column. The wider bottom bank carries the even run 22 to 34 along its top row and the odd run 23 to 31 below it, five positions short of the row above. Against the 2010 book this edition stops rating 7 ESCL and drops the "some models" mark from 13 R WIPER; 16 HEATER is relabelled from blower motor to air conditioner.

Engine compartment fuse block

The 2011 Mazda 3 carries its high-current fuses in the moulded block standing against the left inner wing of the engine compartment, just forward of the battery. Press the tab on the lid and lift: the assignment plate is moulded into the underside, and a fuse puller rides in a clip beside it. The July 2010 handbook (form 8BM5-EA-10F Edition 2) is the edition this page follows.

Read the plate as a landscape drawing with the blank nameplate at the top left. The pair of short rows immediately to the right of it holds 32, 33, 34, 35 with 36, 37, 38, 39 underneath. The three main rows below each begin with wide cartridge sockets and finish in small blades - 1, 2, 3 then 4 to 8; 9, 10, 11 then 12 to 16; 19, 20, 21 then 22 to 25 - and each row is offset slightly to the right of the one above it, which is the easiest way to tell them apart with the lid in your hand. Relay housings take up most of the right-hand side; among them sit the cartridges 17, 18, 26 and 27, the three blades 29, 30, 31 and the oversized 80 A power-steering link at 28. This edition adds ratings the 2010 book left blank at 1 FAN 2, 18 INJ and 31 SWS.
